Roger (Rocky) and Peggy Hammer will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2017. Despite Roger's insistence that they were born married, the couple actually took their vows at the Hains House in Ogden, Utah, in 1967, and were sealed in the Laie Hawaiian Temple on April 8, 1969.
They met at Roy High School, and began dating after Roger's mother picked Peggy's picture out of the yearbook and told him, "Go ask her out." A year later, they were married. They lived in Florida, until Rocky was deployed to Vietnam with the Air Force, and then in Las Vegas, Nevada, after his return. From there, they came back to Utah, and have called Honeyville, Utah, their home since 1976.
Rocky and Peggy have always been close. To this day, they continue to hold hands and fall asleep in each other's arms, on the couch in front of the TV.
They have enjoyed a strong marriage that continues to grow. It has survived the perils and separation of war, a 30 plus year and counting home renovation, 20 years of self-employment at Hammer Photography, the teenage years of their daughter, Mandy, and the "what were they thinking" shenanigans of their two sons, Ryan and Brock, which still continue to occur.
In addition to their children: Ryan and Mary Hammer of Arlington, TN; Mandy and Marc Blauer of River Heights, UT; and Brock and Rikell Hammer of Brigham City, UT; they have six grandchildren: Tanner and Jordyn Blauer, Maddie and Conner Hammer, Kody Jeppsen and Natalie Busenbark. They also have nine furry grandchildren: Rilee, Anna Belle, Simon, Yingyang, Whiskey, Wifi, Ciel, Smokey, and Buddy.
Mom and Dad, thank you for everything you have done for us, your thoughtful advice (both when we did and didn't want to hear it), and for all of your great teachings: what love looks like, how to work hard, how to forgive, how to treat others with dignity and respect, that family has to come first, and that we could do anything, if we set our minds to it.
